Course Outline

 

1. Basic Cost Concepts: Cost terms, cost drivers, Cost pools and cost objects: Classification of Costs; Cost Behaviour

 

2. Product/service costing: Job costing and process costing; costing of services; tracing direct costs to products and allocating indirect costs; Different method of cost allocation; introduction to activity based costing

 

3. Cost analysis for decision making: decisions on make or buy, closing down unprofitable divisions or product line, alternative sourcing, pricing decision under different conditions, etc. 

 

4. Budgeting and Budgetary Control: Types of Budgets; Preparation of Master Budget; Role of Standards in Budget preparation; Impact of Financial policies on budgets; Preparation of Cash Budget; Preparation of pro-forma financial statements 

 

5. Management Control Systems: Variance Analysis; Introduction to Responsibility accounting and performance measurement: transfer pricing, balanced scorecard.

Dear Students,
 
As you would be aware, the 1st session in Management Accounting is scheduled on 16th November. I look forward to meeting you all then.
 
Meanwhile, I would like you all to read the topics mentioned in the attached file and understand the principles and concepts of the topics that I plan to cover on 16th and 17th November. I am attaching a file giving the references to the required reading and also a small activity to enable you to understand the topics better.
 
Please read and come prepared for the session.
